How many accessories is “too” many?

How many accessories is “too” many? Is there really such a thing?
I have two answers in this video for you……

On one side, I’d “no”. It depends on your personality and confidence. If you feel confident on who you’re and have a dramatic/ creative / exuberant personality; accessorising in a big way would resonate with you. At the end of the day you have to stay true to yourself. And when you dress and accessorise from that place of authenticity and self-expression it can be so liberating, exciting and inspiring to others.

And on the other side, I’d say “yes”. However, that’s my personal opinion. It doesn’t mean that’s the right or wrong answer. I resonate the most with simplicity and less is more. When people over-accessorise all of the sudden its seems to me that the accessories are starting to own them; rather than them owning the accessories /the look.

Does this make sense? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please share your insights in the comment below.

Thanks

Embrace new things into your life: colours

For those of you who have known me for some time now, you may have noticed that I love a touch of colours in my outfits and that’s something I appreciate in someone else’s outfit. So I’m going take this topic toa deeper level. So I’d love you to follow me on this. I believe that if nature has given us some many choices of food, fruits, places to visit, music to listen and colours to use or wear why embrace them. Even though you may not like all of the choices up there, without trying or without exploring new possibilities you will never know how good they can or the positive impact they can have in your life.

Vesna & Colours

And this is exactly how I felt after my dear friend and coworker Aleksandra Pinneri created with a new makeup look and added lots of accessories. Yes, I felt totally out of my comfort zone and yes I’m looking very colourful here. So we took this colour combination to an extreme. We combined different shades and hues all around my face. This is not a look that I currently would feel comfortable with, however the exercise was about getting out of my comfort zone and experiencing new colours on my skin and eyes.

The result was incredible…..I couldn’t believe how bright and hazelnut my eyes looked with the blue eye shadow. Normally my eyes look quite dark and less vibrant. The other thing that I noticed by wearing these accessories and having this bight make up look was how uncomfortable I felt initially but then how I started to embrace this look and how much fun and freedom I experienced at the end of the photo-shoot.

Vesna & Colours 2.jpeg

So my intention with this blog is about encouraging you to LET GO of all of the internal limitations and judgement about wearing something different, bright or the idea of standing out. We were born to shine in this world, so try something new today, embrace it and have fun. And please let me know how you did you go. Thank you!!

Till next time,

Love
Vesna xx

P.S. Special thank you to Aleksandra from Unveil the Beauty for your make up and support, thank you  Make up by TJ for the photos and Serafina Boutique for the jewellery. You made this possible!! xx

How to keep stylish On-the-Go

Having items that can be easily mixed and matched and understanding how to accessorise your outfits to dress it up or down, depending on what you’re looking for, could be the missing keys  to keep you stylish on the go or when time is precious.

But before heading into that part, in order to feel & look stylish and fabulous every day with little effort, it’s vital to have the below styling pillars in place:

  • Identify your body shape and learn how to dress it. So you can start shopping for pieces that flatter your shape and enhance your body assets.
  • Have colours in your wardrobe that work for your skin tone. These coloured items could be a mix of accessories and some key clothing pieces.
  • Have a tidy and organised wardrobe so you can see everything you own.

If you have these pillars or styling fundamentals already sorted out, you are just one step ahead of looking great every day. If not, remember that I can help you and support you during this style journey and offer you a tailored styling sessions that would work for your particular situation

The missing link here is getting more confident and daring about accessorising and mixing & matching your clothing. As you can see in the outfits below, it’s not rocket science how we could transition these two garments, a pair jeans and a cream blouse, from a day time classic look into a night time creative/adventurous look.

Dressing down or up

Sparkly jewellery, sophisticated shoes a perhaps a punch of a vibrant colour can totally change the an outfit  (refer to left outfit)  into something exciting, glamorous and unique (refer to right outfit).

When you introduce interesting colours like this vibrant blue, textures like the reptile leather handbag with sparkly accessories the transformed outfit will look very different; in this case the right outfit looks more alive, vibrant, adventurous and more appropriate for night time.

So, in order to keep stylish on the go; I think accessories could become your best friend. They can help you keep your wardrobe trendy, fun and current without having to spend much money.

So if you:

Know how to dress your body shape,

Feel confident and happy about the selection of colours within your clothing and accessories,

Your wardrobe is looking organised,

Have your essentials or staples covered , which don’t date easily, like the basic white blouse/shirt, little black dress, or dark wash jeans; you can add a new accessory every season or every second season to your wardrobe fresh and updated and to quickly dress down or up your outfits. This is the formula to keep stylish on the go.

Does this sound like a challenging achievement? How are you currently feeling about these pillars that I’ve mentioned above? I’d really appreciate it if you could hit the reply button or head into my Facebook page to leave your comments..

I don’t know how to accessorise – Part 1

I can’t tell you how many times I hear this phrase: “I can’t accessorise”. When you add accessories to your outfit, it’s important to take into consideration your body frame, your body shape, proportions, what you have in your wardrobe and occupation.

Today, I’m going to focus on body frame or scale. It’s always better to choose a size of accessory that’s in harmony with your body scale. Body frame takes into account your height, weight and bone structure. Generally speaking if you have a small body frame, small to medium accessories will work for you. While on the other hand, if you have a large body frame choose medium to large accessories. On a medium scale or body frame, any size accessory will work for you. However, if you’re short it’s better to stick with small to medium accessories since chunky ones may make you look shorter.

Here are some examples of what accessories you can wear or not wear if you are petite or have a small body frame.

Scarves on petite womenJamie McCarthyGetty Images

There are lots of ways to wear a scarf stylishly, and on short petite women can help elongate their bodies, making themselves look longer and leaner by wearing a scarf in a way that flatters their petite physique (photo on the left). On the other hand, certain ways of wearing a scarf can actually make a short woman look even shorter (photo on the right).

With handbags, or other accessories such as sunglasses, a medium- to small-sized handbag usually works best for the short woman. However on a tall person (middle photo) they would look great. You can also see from in the photo that the size of the sunglasses (photo on the left) and the size of the handbag (photo on the right) look really overwhelming on their body frames and look out of proportion in size.

Remember that accessories are a great way to get the look you want. i.e. chic, elegant, sophisticated, professional, casual, fun or artistic and to look and feel younger. However, a polished look is achieved through balance, so don’t go overboard with your accessories. I’d normally say maximum of 3-4 (i.e. earrings, bracelet, cocktail ring and belt) since too many can appear flashy or overdone. If you’re in doubt don’t wear it or post a photo in Facebook of your accessorised outfit and I could give you my feedback. Alternatively, I do offer one-on-one accessorising sessions, if this something that could interest you.

How to choose the right fascinator

Wearing a fascinator can really change the look and feel of your outfit. As a general guideline, remember that a fascinator should work with your whole outfit and your overall look, including your hair style.

I have put together some top tips to consider when choosing this glamorous accessory to accompany your next spring racing outfit:

1) Before choosing a fascinator decide on the outfit that you will wear such as clothing, shoes, and jewellery.  Pay attention to the colours, shapes, patterns, textures.

2) Create some balance with the rest of the accessories like shoes, handbags and jewellery. i.e. match silver jewellery with silver metallic accents in your fascinators or if your clothing is busy in terms of patterns and textures keep your fascinator simple, smooth and in one or two colours.

3) Long dresses look better with larger fascinators unless you opt for a small fascinator with large feathers or other trimming.

4) Avoid matching the colour of your clothing to the colour of the fascinator; instead opt for a hue that compliments your clothing to make sure that the fascinator doesn’t get lost in the outfit.

 5) Keep in mind the colour of your shoes or clutch when deciding the colour of your fascinator.

6) As a general rule of thumb, pastel coloured fascinators compliment outfits in softer and neutral shades while fascinators in bright colours can look better with a bright coloured outfit.

7) Fascinators and face shape

Round faces: try an asymmetrical-style fascinator or angle your fascinator on your head.

Square faces: Your fascinator is best worn on the side. Try something with curves to soften up your face shape.

Narrow faces: try fascinators that provide width and opt for full brims or features.

8) Take into consideration your body frame. i.e. If you are petite avoid a massive fascinator because that will look very overwhelming on you.

Choosing the perfect fascinator is not an easy task because of the plethora of choices and also because it’s an accessory that we generally don’t experiment much with. So, I hope these tips gave you some guidance when shopping for a fascinator. At the end of the day you also have to be guided by your personality and wear something that you will feel comfortable in.

Have you recently bought a fascinator? How was that experience? I’d love to hear from you……..

4 Reasons why you should accessorise your outfits

I often hear women saying “I don’t tend to accessorise my outfits”, or “my wardrobe looks so boring” or “I’m always wearing the same outfit…………

Think about accessories as the topping of the cake and also consider accessories as the best wardrobe pieces for creating multiple looks for less.

Here are some of the reasons why you should accessorise your outfits:

1)      To draw the attention away from any area that you may prefer to hide and to bring attention to areas you may like to enhance

Think about that accessories like jewellery, belts, shoes, hats, scarves, handbag’s, hosiery and sunglasses which are bold, colourful, chunky, big or sparkly they catch your attention.  Subconsciously, your eyes tend to get stuck to wherever area of your body the accessory is placed or worn and you may pay minimal attention to the rest of the body.  You can use the example from the photo below to draw the attention away from your hips and thighs and bring the attention to your upper body.

Accessories to draw attention

2)      To transform a basic & boring outfit into an exciting look

Generally speaking a plain outfit, i.e, a black dress with no details at all, not any jewellery and plain black simple shoes may look boring and dull. However if you accessorise the same outfit with some sparkly jewellery & sophisticated shoes your look will totally change into something exciting, glamorous and unique.  The same will happen if you wear a basic t-shirt, denim pants and plain shoes like the photo below. When you introduce interesting colours, textures with accessories the outfit will look more alive and vibrant.

3)      To keep your wardrobe current without having to spend a fortune

Think about that accessories are great to keep your wardrobe trendy, fun and current without having to spend much money. If you have your wardrobe essentials or staples covered , which don’t date easily, like the basic white blouse/shirt, little black dress, or dark wash jeans; you can add a new accessory every season or every second season to incorporate the latest fashion trends into your wardrobe. For example, if floral patterns are very much on trend rather than buying a floral blazer you could buy a floral scarf.

4)      To add personality to your clothing

If you wanted to look feminine & romantic, classic or bohemian, you could do it through accessories.  Think like for example a flowery brooche will give you a feminine touch to your outfit, a pearl necklace a more classic and elegant look and a long layered necklace with feathers, beads and fringing will give you a bohemian touch. i.e. the look below could work for someone who would like to look  more adventurous and fearless.

So, I strongly believe that accessories should be your best friend and it’s not that I was trying to convince you to wear accessories. However, by incorporating some new fashion jewellery pieces or scarves into your wardrobe could be just enough to get you more excited about your wardrobe.

The Best in Jewellery Trends: Mixing Metals

Mixing metals

Previously, mixing jewellery metals was deemed a fashion faux paux. Lately, however; women have tossed tradition out the window and are now focusing on creating fabulous designs with a variety of metal chains, beads, charms, and other findings in silver, gold and base metals. This look isn’t for everyone, as many women prefer the polished look of all one color or another. If you’re willing to break the rules for fashion, keep these simple tips in mind to wear mixed metals with style.

Mix corresponding rings with your watch. Keep things simple by matching the metal of your rings with the watch on that hand. If you still want to wear a ring of a different metal, wear it on the opposite hand.

Consider the proximity of metals and match accordingly. For example, necklaces and earrings should be the same metal if they are in close proximity to one another. The same can be said for belts and bag hardware, as well as rings and bracelets.

Stick with the same metal for fine jewellery. If you’re a woman who wears only fine jewellery, keep it all silver or all gold. A fine gold and diamond ring will rarely look good when paired with a sporty silver watchband on the same hand.

Wear multi-metal pieces together for the best of both worlds. If you can’t choose between gold and silver, choose jewellery that has both metals in one piece. This allows you to easily pair your favorite pieces together without breaking any rules.

How to Accessorize a LBD (Little Black Dress)

Nearly every woman has that little black dress that they can wear to nearly any event. The key to making that simple back dress so versatile is in the details – jewelry, accessories, tights, and more. These adornments can make any plain black dress go from plain and ordinary to lovely and glamorous. Use these simple tips to ensure that your LBD never goes out of style.

Clothing

The right clothing additions can really play up or down your little black dress. Match your LBD with a blazer for important business meetings, as black is an ideal corporate look. If it’s chilly outside, slip on a simple cardigan or cute bolero to make your ensemble stylish and practical.

Jewelry

Choose your jewelry carefully to make your LBD more casual or more formal, depending on the event. Big statement-making necklaces work well for weddings and similar occasions. Opt for simple studs, hoops, or dangly earrings which can look especially great with your hair worn up. Bracelets are a must-have for your LBD, as they can provide that hint of metal finish or color you need to contrast the black perfectly.

Accessories

Women have a multitude of options for accessorizing their little black dress. Opt for a colored scarf in a stylish print or pattern. For more formal occasions, select a quality silk scarf. Some women like to wear a pair of black tights with their LBD for a more classy and conservative look. Others prefer to add texture with a clutch bag. The addition of a small clutch – perhaps with one sparkling sequins – can certainly add brilliance to your go-to little black dress.

Guide to Women’s Hosiery and How to Properly Wear It

HoiseryHosiery is the epitome of stylish, sexy and feminine attire for women. Ranging from ultra- sheer stockings to full warm, wool tights, there is a wide variety of colors, textures, materials, and prints available. In any form, they are sure to draw attention and improve one of the most beautiful parts of a woman’s body – her legs! Consider these go-to tips to wear hosiery the correct way.

Types of Hosiery

Classic: A must-have in every woman’s wardrobe, classic hosiery is available in nude (for bare-legged look), traditional black (perfect for evening wear), and nearly every shade in between. Many types of hosiery even come with control-tops to slim the waist.

Fishnet: These sexy stockings and tights are a popular option for any flattering look. Made of net fabric or mesh, they are the perfect addition to any evening wear.

Leggings: When the weather becomes too cold for bare legs, slip on a pair of leggings for a glammed up look. Paired with your favorite heels they aim to impress.

Opaque/Suede: Both of these types of hosiery contain a higher denier than more classic styles, and the thickness keeps you warm and creates the illusion of slimmer legs.

Stay-Ups: If you are a stocking kind-of-gal but aren’t too fond of suspender belts, stay ups provide a self-supporting band to keep your stockings in place comfortably.

Stockings: Gain maximum appeal with stockings, ranging in colors from nude to black. And you know what? …..Men go crazy when they see a flash of your stocking tops, worn under skirts or dresses.

Extra Tips & Tricks

Choosing hosiery for your ensembles can be a bit challenging. The key rule is to wear sheer hose for dressy occasion and wooly or opaque hose for casual events. Also consider the color of your shoes, as a bigger contrast in color results in a bolder look. Patterned hosiery can also be eye-catching, but don’t overdo it. The goal is to put together an outfit that flows, from your blouse down to your hosiery and footwear.

Guide to fashion scarves

Instantly add polish to anything you wear with fashion scarves.  Even if you are not an expert in scarf tying, a scarf just wrapped around the neck can boost an outfit’s appeal. Best of all, fashion scarves can be worn all year round. These simple, versatile and highly-affordable accessories can be found in a plethora of colours, patterns and textures to add a voguish feel to your ensembles.

Scarf Buying Guidelines

Consider a scarf that complements your body figure. It should also be versatile to get the most wear for your money.
